EASTERN MONGOLIA

Eastern Mongolia is a paradise where earth fuses into one part- a blank state of Blue sky colliding with an equally empty sea of yellow grass. This region contains one of the largest – and last – undisturbed steppe ecosystems in the world, and is the core habitat of the Mongolian gazelle. The eastern Mongolia, encompassing the Khan Khentii Mountain range and Great Eastern Plains has a lot to offer for travelers. Wilderness area of Khentii Mountains, the historical places that were mentioned in the 13th century’s Secret History of Mongols including birthplace of Chinggis Khaan, and endless vast land called steppe is the main attraction for the visitors. Traditional folk songs, blacksmith and silversmith skills and handicrafts of Dariganga people who inhabit the southern end of the plains, are well-known in Mongolia. The Onon river basin are closely connected with a number of important events of ancient and medieval history of the Chinggis Khaan, the greatest figure in the world history of nomads. The Onon rises on the northern slope of the Khan Khentii Range and flows east to join Amar river in Russia. The Onon river is rich in fish species including amur catfish, umber, taimen, lenok, and Amar chub.
Buir lake is the largest lake in the eastern Mongolia, lies on the edge of Numrug Protected Area. The lake stretching 40 km along the Chinese border, is an important local fishing zone. The Dariganga steppes, extending along the southern border of great eastern plains are home rich wildlife, especially thousands of white tail gazelles which are main features of the east. The golden sand dunes, lakes, mineral springs are the perfection of nature. Golden Dari Mountain is a shaman shrine dedicated to good fortune which has been worshipped by local Dariganga people for many centuries.
